AN EVENING WITH JAMES SURLS:

Flatbed Retrospective Exhibition & UT-Press Book Signing
OCTOBER 8 - NOVEMBER 5, 2005
Saturday, October 8, 2005 6-9PM
Artist's Reception & Book Signing Sat. Oct. 8, 6-9PM

James Surls, the legendary National Sculptor of Texas, unveils three new etchings from his in-progress suite of eighteen original prints. Also on view are original woodcuts, linocuts, and etchings from the twelve editions the artist has created at Flatbed during the last fifteen years. This is the first time that all of Surls's Flatbed editions have been on view at once and available to collectors. Also on view will be a new Art Guys documentary of "The Execution", a 2003 print happening at Surls's Splendora studio. He will be selling and signing copies of his hot-off-the-press book published by the University of Texas Press: James Surls: The Splendora Years 1977-1997. Surls will have concurrent exhibitions at the Blaffer Gallery at the University of Houston and at Barbara Davis Gallery in Houston, and is a featured author at the upcoming Texas Book Festival. Don't miss this chance to meet this important artist, whose personality is as powerful as his work.
