FLATBED VIGNETTES: JAMES SURLS AND JULIE SPEED

FLATBED VIGNETTES: JAMES SURLS AND JULIE SPEED

APRIL 19 - AUGUST 23, 2013

Julie Speed and James Surls, two of Flatbed's featured artists, are dedicated to the use of printmaking media to create multiple originals. Flatbed is showing a selection of their works. Speed's use of the polymer gravure and photogravure processes allows her to create deeply etched plates that are printed then hand-colored by the artist. Surls, this year's recipient for the Texas Medal of the Arts has used both relief and intaglio processes while working at Flatbed. A selection of his prints including the complete Heartland Suite is now on display.
