HOMAGE: WORKS BY SPENCER FIDLER

Monumental and large sized works that go beyond printmaking boundaries
MARCH 21 - MAY 31, 2014
March 21 6 - 8 PM

Flatbed Press and Gallery is pleased to present the work of Spencer Fidler. Fidler, who works primarily with the printmaking method of intaglio, or etching, to build complicated, rich works has been a featured artist with Flatbed since 1993. Fidler’s work has evolved from personal, expressive forms to large, complex cyclical narratives to symbolic cultural confrontations with the medium of the intaglio print combined with mixed media.

The exhibition, Homage, consists of both early and recent works. Currently he is experimenting with the construction of layered intaglio shapes and silhouettes with several images and the use of varnish and acrylic medias on Japanese papers to build transparent images to create installations.

Fidler tends to work the intaglio pieces over extended periods, often even for several years. The images are modules that can be shifted for presentation; they are never editions but rather are always unique images.
