DECEMBER 5, 2014 - JANUARY 10, 2015
December 6, 2014
Opening and artist reception 2 pm - 5 pm

Presented with support of Alice Leora Briggs, The Power of Insanity (Dec.7 - Jan.10) is an exhibition of work by the founder of the Juárez asylum Vision in Action, José Antonio Galvan. They are striking in their rendering and potent in their message. They confront political hypocrisy, criticize corruption, and denounce the tragedies of cartel violence. Proceeds from the sales of work by Galvan and his residents will be gifted to the asylum, which provides food, refuge, and community to the area’s homeless, infirm, and mentally ill. Please join us for the opening reception of The Room and Power of Insanity.

And the press release version:

The Power of Insanity is an exhibition of work by the founder and residents of the Vision in Action asylum situated on the fringe of Ciudad Juarez in Mexico. The privately funded asylum provides food, refuge, and community to the area’s homeless, infirm, and mentally ill. Street Pastor and painter Galvan, known by many as ‘El Pastor,’ founded the asylum after overcoming his own struggle with drug use and homelessness. His works are striking in their rendering and potent in their message. They sizzle with condemnation, confronting political hypocrisy, criticizing corruption, and denouncing the tragedies of cartel violence. They illuminate subjects that he and his residents are tragically all too familiar with, many of whom seek refuge at the asylum due to the lack of resources for the homeless or mentally ill. Proceeds from the sales of work by El Pastor and his residents will be gifted to the asylum.

Please join us for the opening reception of Power of Insanity on December 6, 2014 from 2-5pm.
