WEST THROUGH EAST... EAST THROUGH WEST: JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS OF DARYL HOWARD

WEST THROUGH EAST... EAST THROUGH WEST: JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS OF DARYL HOWARD

JANUARY 13 - FEBRUARY 11, 2015
January 16, 2015 6-8pm

Created through a woodcut printing process originating in 700AD Japan, Daryl Howard's prints depict scenes from her travels around the world. Join us, and Daryl Howard, for the Artist's Reception January 16 from 6-8pm.

Daryl says of her work, "as I have traveled this planet my eyes have been captivated by the particular places that remain with me through my woodblock prints. This selection of traditional Japanese Woodblock Prints, exhibited for Print Austin, depict scenes in Morocco, Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Peru, and my home here in Texas. Through these prints, my mind’s eye can return to these locations over and over again.

For 40 years, I have seen the world through this process. No matter where I am I will translate my vision – invigorated in the East by the Chinese and subsequently in 700 AD by the Japanese. I have carried this practice westward, to my studio in Southwest Austin. Every image has the essence of the East, leant through the intricacies of this classic and traditional technique.”
