Poet, songwriter, performer and artist, only together do they adequately describe Bob Schneider. When he creates, whether visual art or song lyrics, he pours into each an enormous amount of well-crafted detailed moments. His visual art includes the practice of making etchings, a medium that takes time and patience to draw and etch an image into copper then print it onto paper. Schneider exploits this medium's ability to create detailed drawings and working with master printers, he can create an edition of the prints from the copper.
Recently released from Flatbed Press is Bob's The Night Vision, printed in an edition of 24. It is a large etching which was drawn directly onto a 30 x 23 inch sheet of copper then etched. Bob took advantage of the verso side of a piece of copper that already had accidentally etched areas. He asked that the printer print the marred surface of the copper and decided to let those areas remain while he drew his image adding to what was already there. Bob's finished etched drawing focuses on the arms and hands of a figure which are held behind the back. The hands, fully realized, and the back of the head and neck, bring clarity to a moment of touch and silence amid an atmospheric night haze.
Night Vision is now available through Flatbed Press. The 29 x 22 1/4 inch image is printed with a warm black ink onto 45 by 34 3/4 inch heavy Rives BFK paper. For a better image with details, link to THE NIGHT WAY. Purchases can be made online or stop by or call Flatbed Press for more information.
