Bruce Lee Webb is the co-conspirator and co- creator of Webb Gallery in downtown Waxahachie, Texas. He loves hobo lore and train car graffiti. He is a researcher and collector by nature and has recently finished the book "As Above So Below -Art of the Fraternal Lodge" with co-author Lynne Adele and published by University of Texas Press. To purchase the book, go to the book section on our site.When Bruce had an exhibit at Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts in Lubbock and at Neighborhood in Oak Cliff, I saw his work for the first time and knew right away he would be a perfect Flatbed artist. By that I mean he had "Texas Grit", a term Mark L. Smith liked to use about the honest, straightforward but rough around the edges kind of art we gravitate towards here at Flatbed. We invited Bruce to come create an etching at Flatbed and the fruits of his labor yielded five editions.
The Texas Road Hog series consists of four variations of a sugar-lift etching of his own version of a phrenological chart consisting of Texas town names. The etched "head" was printed in a variation of colors over a background etching created from a photo-etching of a 1912 pharmacy ledger.
As a bonus, Bruce created one of his "cowboy" images as a small etching. This handsome fellow is to be released in August.
