Collection: The Plane and the Sculptor Translating Sculptural Thought

Sculpture is often understood through mass, volume, gravity, and touch. Yet long before a work occupies space, sculptural ideas are tested through drawing, mark-making, and the printed image. The Plane and the Sculptor: Translating Sculptural Thinking brings together artists whose prints do not document sculpture but rather reveal another language for sculptural thought. In these works, the printed plane becomes a site where volume is imagined, material is translated, and space is constructed through line, tone, texture, and gesture.

In this exhibition of works by sculptors who have created prints with Flatbed, we explore the works by Linda Ridgway, John Robert Craft, Luis Jimenez, James Surls, Hollis Hammonds and James Sullivan.  It is part one of an exhibition of print works by sculptors.
