VERONICA CECI

Veronica Ceci is an observational artist whose current work concentrates on the figurative implications of our involvement with technology. Sourced in photographs that Ceci takes of people interacting with smartphones, tablets and laptops, the images are mediated to emphasize the isolating effects of removing one’s attention from the immediate environment by focusing on these machines. Through the printmaking processes of lithography, woodcut and monotype works on paper ranging from quite graphic to the verge of photorealistic are created. The use of printmaking techniques juxtaposes outmoded yet enduring methods of image generation with the transient nature of images on the screen. The creation of the work does not involve any digital processes, each layer of each artwork is hand done, thereby contrasting the remove of the digital with the intimate of the body.
