Taught by Belinda Casey, this class covers the basics of soft ground etching techniques. This method explores the beautiful qualities of a softer mark, like a pencil mark, rather than the crisp line of hard ground. Because soft ground yields to light pressure, it can be used to create a variety of tones and textures. An array of materials like fabrics, papers, cutouts, plant material, feathers, things that are malleable and soft (no bones, buttons or metal etc.) can be utilized to make your image. Chine collé, a collaged printing method, is also introduced.

This workshop is rich in demos that will guide you in creating your own image on copper. This workshop is an opportunity to expand your intaglio expertise and access Flatbed's professional print facility. All levels welcome!
